Workshops for Teachers

During Spring and Summer 2013 we are hosting a range of half day workshops under the theme of Inspiration for the Outdoor Classroom.

These sessions will focus on use of the outdoor classroom through a variety of approaches; from environmental education to adventure activities. Each workshop will initially focus on ideas for school grounds, followed by how this can be extended through visits to the countryside, including venues in Weardale.

Download the PDF below for more information about each of the 8 workshops and how to book.

General Training Opportunities

We offer a number of training courses on request. The cost of courses vary so please contact us to discuss your requirements further. If interested in any of these courses, contact us and we will advertise to attract other course participants if required:

  • Charcoal Burning: Learn about charcoaling techniques and produce a kiln of charcoal from start to finish. See slideshow below.
  • Green Woodworking: Learn the techniques involved in green woodworking, using traditional methods like shave horses and pole lathes. These days are based at our straw bale workshop and us wood from the quarry.
  • Video-making: Small group courses available that teach the basics of video making: plan, storyboard, shoot and edit a short video in the quarry and take it home on DVD. Videos are shot using available light and edited in Final Cut Studio on the quarry’s Apple Mac computer.
  • Spinning taster sessions
  • Natural dyes taster sessions: Discover natural dyes and make your own plant dyes to dye wool.
