Volunteer Day

10.00am – 4.00pm. Join in our regular volunteering event. Tasks will include the continued work on the eco-classroom and nature reserve management. Refreshments and a light lunch are provided so if you intend to come please let us know so we have an idea of numbers.

Art in the woods

10.00am – 12.30pm. Come and help us celebrate our new woodland classroom by contributing to our wild art workshop. Make some ephemeral art from the natural materials found in the wood and cook some marshmallows around the fire. Families £8.00.
Wild food foray
09th Jun 2012
10.30am – 3.30pm. This event will involve an introduction to foraging for wild food involving a food walk and collection session. There will be an introduction to some simple foods to cook outdoors and the opportunity to cook over a fire. Suitable for individuals and families with children over 8. Adults £6, children £1. Booking essential. This event has been funded by Love Food.
Become wild woodsmen and have a feast! With Wild North Discovery

10.00am – 4.00pm. You’ll need to build a shelter, your own den in the woods. You’re going to eat so you’ll build and light your own camp fire (but no matches!). You’ll make your own bread cakes and cook them on the embers; make and cook your very own kebabs and finish off with camp fire popcorn. With the help of your adults you’ll learn how to use cutting tools safely. Sitting round the fire you can have a go at making a willow whistle, an elder-wood pea-shooter or a string bracelet from nettles! Activity leaders are qualified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning to teach bushcrafts and are CRB checked. Booking essential. £40 for a family of up to four. £10 per additional child. Further information: Maximum of two children per adult. Children should be 8 years or over. Bring your own food to make kebabs.
Sawdust and pit-fired hand-made pots workshop

Saturday/Sunday 18/19 August 2012. 10.00am – 3.00pm. Come and work with potter Annette Poulson to make small pots and models from local clay and fire them in a sawdust or pit kiln over 2-days. Booking essential. Adults £90.
Wild clay and oven-making workshop

Harehope becomes a LAND Demonstration site
15th Nov 2011
The Harehope Quarry Project has successfully become a LAND learning centre. The learning centres are permaculture projects, who show, explain and describe to volunteers, visitors and an interested public, how the principles and ethics of permaculture are applied to their project. As a LAND learning centre Harehope Quarry will form part of an England-wide co-operative network.
Trees for Harehope

The Harehope Quarry Project has received a grant from Durham County Council for 80 trees. The trees will be planted during National Tree week - 26 November - 4 December 2011.
Frosterlety goes plastic-free!

Traders in Frosterley, with the help of the ‘Working for a Future in Frosterley’ project, are introducing a scheme to reduce the use of plastic bags in the village. The scheme will be launched on 27 November 2010. Cotton bags will be available in the Frosterley branch of the Penrith Co-operative Society and at Gardiner’s Country Store on a ‘borrow and return’ basis and Turtle Bags at The Village Chip Bar. Frosterley Community School are designing their own bags that will be for sale at £2, with all proceeds going to the school. These will be available in early December.
